Endless Winter?

I'm getting ready to apply for a seasonal gigs in New Zealand this upcoming summer/kiwi winter. I figure having a personal website isn't a bad idea if a potential employer wanted to get a bit more information on me.

I'm a 27 year old Chinese-American born and raised in Michigan. 5 years ago I bought my first pair of skis after I got a hot tip that I should move "out west" since my Dallas-based tech job went remote. Fast forward those 5 years and 300 or so days of skiing, I've been incredibly lucky to share lifelong experiences with friends exploring the Rocky Mountains while working at the local ski area. I made a ski movie about it if you want to watch :). Now I'm getting ready to take my Avalanche Pro 1 next month and seeing if I have what it takes to be a ski guide. Skiing has my heart, but I also do enjoy spicy scrambles, running increasingly longer distances at unimpressive speeds in questionable attire, adventure bikepacking, etc. My stoke for connecting with our natural world has never burned stronger!

Whenever I think about what life would look like had it gone according to plan I have to pinch myself…99% sure I'd be living in a high rise apartment in Uptown Dallas or some other big city working my big boy job. I'm typing this out in a shipping container nestled in the Japanese Alps that I've been living out of for the last two months. It feels like I've won the freaking lottery! Anyways, enough gloating from my smug ass 🤣. I'm curating a digital space here at tonyshui.com to share my voice - have fun poking around!
